Tone, Founder of the Luck’s Yard Clinic, and co-founder of the Green Hub Project for Teens, was speaking at the ‘Women in Chiropractic’ event on Saturday the 27th January.
She shared the history of how the idea of a ‘therapy garden’ for teens started from a vision in 2019 of wanting to offer nature based therapy in the secret garden behind Luck’s Yard.
She went on to share how she was part of building the team who created the Green Hub that we have today.
Tone talked about the need for support for today’s adolescents citing the number of teens who are struggling having increased from 1/9 in 2017, to 1/5 in 2023.
In her presentation she also shared how the organisation has grown and become a charity in 2023, with over 60 volunteers who all work together to offer nature-based therapy sessions for teens as well as monthly parent support groups in our local community. She shared the Green Hub film, when the audience had a chance to really see what the two gardens look like and how they have been transformed thanks to the dedication of our volunteers.
The Green Hub are also launching an 8 week online ‘Life skills for teens’ course which be accessible for all teens and which Tone created together with her trustees Vanessa Lanham Day and Anthea Cooper in 2023. Read all about it here: https://greenhub.org.uk/lifeskills/
Tone says:’ It was really emotional to share the journey that we have collaboratively taken as a group, so we now can offer these sessions to teens and parents. I am so very proud of all our team from our committee, to our admin team and the garden volunteers, for working so dedicatedly in order to support teens and families in our community.
We now can offer up to 24 places a week on our 12 week programmes, which is really positive.’
Tone also was given the IMPACT award on the day, for being an exceptional chiropractor, creating impact in the lives of others. She would like to share this award with her fellow volunteers in the Green Hub.
The charity is incredibly grateful for the 3 donations made online by Tone’s colleagues, a total making up £700.
She says: ‘Thank you all for your kindness towards our charity, we couldn’t be more grateful.’
